Slowing Down to Speed Up

The Morning Chase.

Alarm goes off.

It’s time to start your morning practice and the brain offers, “I’m going to be good to myself and sleep in a bit longer.”

Nice try right?

Instead, the brain kicks into high gear.

“I should have said something else on the call yesterday.”

“Hmm, I wonder what’s left in the fridge for dinner tonight.”

“I still have those freaking receipts that I still have to log.”

“I really should hire that assistant.”

Maybe, if you try taking some deep breaths or start a guided meditation, you might be able to fall back asleep?

Another nice try.

An overwhelmed brain that feels rushed only sees sleep and rest as a distraction.

The brain defaults to lining up all the different scenarios, just so you can feel like you’re on top of everything.

Yes the feeling doesn’t last long, but in the brain's eyes, it works.

Therefore repeats.

Out goes the extra sleep.

In comes the chasing mode!

PAUSE.

Yes, right now.

PAUSE to give your heart a hug and honour yourself in this moment . . .

Just so your brain can see the benefit of being kind to yourself for the rest of the day.

PAUSE to question whether you are making decisions from love and service  . . .

Just so your brain can question whether flying by the seat of your pants for the rest of the week is a good thing.

PAUSE to simplify and allow the overwhelm to dissipate . . .

Just so your brain can be in the clear tomorrow morning to actually get your morning journaling/yoga practice done.

When you teach your brain to slow down and recognize that simple and easy is an option, overcomplicating everything is no longer a default.

That way, you can actually be on top of everything and get there faster.

Repeat after me.

“I am slowing down . . . so that I can speed up.”

Be truly you,

xo Vanessa
