Ever get lost in comparison mode?
Your peer posted about their massive success and the next thing you know you’re half an hour into checking out the inner workings of their life or studying what their website looks like so you can see what you might be missing.
You want so bad to celebrate their successes, but the only thing your brain wants to focus on is:
- “You’re not getting the results they are getting.”
- “You should be further along.”
- “You need to do more.”
You know you have what it takes, but you just can’t seem to get it right.
UMPH!
A little kick in the gut.
Tightness in chest and a tight knot in your throat.
Can you feel it?
You’re not alone. This was me ALL friggin’ weekend!
Comparison is nothing but an act to set you off in a debilitating spiral of negative self-talk for the rest of the week.
Your brain knows it’s not good for you, but you can’t seem to stop.
You spend so much time and energy wishing you were more like them, that you forget about being more like yourself.
The only thing you’re missing is YOU.
When you get lost in comparison mode, it’s an opportunity for you to find your way back home.
Do what you need to do to process your emotions.
I had a good cry and then I got to work.
I looked at the facts and I know to be true.
- We are not the same person.
- I am me. They are them.
- There’s no 2 people on this planet that are exactly the same.
I then looked at a story that works for me from this.
- We are all created in the perfect image of God.
- If I choose to see - their reflection is here as a reminder of what I can see in myself.
- Their business is different. We are on different paths.
- We have different results because we are not meant to have the same results.
There is nothing to compare.
Spiraling stopped.
You can move on now.
Celebrate their success with them and move on to your next task.
It’s as simple as that.
Having the skills to reel yourself back in and calm the f* down, allows you to focus your time and energy on actually being yourself and celebrating your own successes.
You can allow others to shine without dampening your own light.
Live freely as you,
Vanessa Leung
