Just for Today.
There is 24 hours in a day.
Every morning you wake up, you receive the potential to experience another 24 hours. You get to choose right then and there how you would like to experience it.
This morning, I reminded myself of this as Glen and I were getting ready for our weekend getaway to LA.
I don’t like rushing my mornings, but this morning was different.
The alarm went off at 4:15am and I woke up thinking “Oh right, it’s travel day.”
Right away, I recognized my belief “Travel days are usually rushed.”
I sensed the tension arise in my chest and noticed my habitual response of “calm down Vanessa” just so I could start to feel better.
This positive thought doesn’t actually work for me. It’s a cover-up.
It doesn’t actually make me feel better.
I continue to look at the time and feel anxious.
As I put on my earrings, I asked myself this one question that shifted my thinking “Just for today, how would you like to experience your day 1 of vacation?”
I answered with “Just for today, I will have fun. I can totally handle the anxiety because I know how to process it.”
What are you willing to do just for today?
How do you want to feel for the next 24 hours?
I love this practice because it always shifts perspective and helps the Fear-Brain to break things down to consumable chunks.
You don’t have to worry about tomorrow or next week. Just today.
Today is what you get.
If you want to experience more joy in your life.
You can choose it right now, just for today.
If you want to create a habit of being more compassionate to yourself.
You can choose it right now, just for today.
When tomorrow comes, you can repeat this practice all over again.
Just for today, I will…...
