I used to hate this.

I used to hate planning.

Planning felt restrictive, like a trap.

It meant that I couldn’t be free to do what I wanted.

It meant that I couldn’t be creative.

The free-spirited me thrives on flexibility.

I don’t like being tied down to a schedule!

I was constantly feeling stressed by all the things I wanted to do for myself but didn’t know exactly when I would have time to do them.

I was always last on my list.

When I did have time to do something for myself, it was usually a form of procrastination to distract myself from something I didn’t want to do but had to do.

I would say something like “It’s about time I do something for myself!”

The problem with this is that I would then feel guilty for doing so and then proceeded to beat myself up for it afterwards.

Sometimes it meant that I would start a project but didn’t get around to complete it.

This felt even worse because it then became a shiny object that I wanted but couldn’t have.

Soon there was a long running list of “ONE DAY I’LL GET TO-DOs” which I kept pushing off because more urgent things came up - work or family obligations.

I was a victim to my schedule and all the “more urgent things”.

It was always easier to say yes to others and no to me.

Like I had no choice and control over it.

It ran my life.

As soon as I decided..
  • I am in control of my own time.
  • I GET TO CHOOSE how I want to spend my time.
  • I can use my calendar as my tool and assistant.

My life transformed from “I’m too busy” to “I’m not busy. I have time.”

Now I love planning because it means FREEDOM to me.

I don’t worry about my long list of TO-DOs because it doesn’t exist anymore.

It’s all in my calendar!

  • I have more time to spend with my family.
  • I have more time to do the creative projects that I’ve been putting off.
  • I have more time for me!

Planning means that I COULD do what I want, when I want.

All I had to do was shift how I was thinking about my time and my schedule.

All I had to do was decide ahead of time when I want to do it and then follow it.

All I had to do was to SAY NO to everything that was saying yes to just to please others.

I still get to decide.
I’m still in control.
I get to do what I want!
